This month and every month we honor and celebrate the rich culture, beautiful history, and healing powers of Latine communities.
On Tuesday, October 11th, HCN hosted our annual Latine Heritage Month Celebration as a hybrid virtual and in-person event. The theme of this year’s celebration was “Todos Somos Soñadores” (“We Are All Dreamers”) and the monarch butterfly featured in the event flyer represents migration, dreams, and Dreamers.
The celebration started with HCN’s Latine Heritage Month Planning Committee sharing some of their history, traditions, values, and culture during a gorgeous virtual presentation and then continued in person at HCN’s Bayview headquarters with food and fun.
Attendees learned about the history of Latine Heritage Month, langauge shifts and why HCN is celebrating Latine Heritage Month this year instead of Latino/a or Latinx Heritage Month, the impact of Latine movies, the importance of Afro Latine representation, that El Salvador has 23 active volcanoes, and so much more.
HCN's Board President Francisco Herrera also gave an inspiring keynote and raised his voice in song and celebration. He spoke about the "her" of heritage, walking the long journey, and the self-care and collaboration it takes for a long journey.
HCN’s Latine Heritage Month Planning Committee put on an amazing event that brought our community together to learn, honor, and celebrate Latine heritage month and how "We Are All Dreamers."
Those who joined the event remotely also got to celebrate with amazing food! Here are the links the HCN Latine Planning Committee shared with everyone to make it easy to find local Latine-owned businesses:
