On July 11th, 2023, the heartbeat of change resonated through the annual HCN staff retreat, where inspiration met action, and the community thrived. This gathering was more than just a day of reflection and bonding; it was a testament to the remarkable strides that HCN is making for the vibrant city of San Francisco. As each team member brought their dedication to the table, a symphony of collaboration and vision echoed, amplifying the impact of HCN's noble initiatives.


A Confluence of Empowerment and Gratitude

The heart of the retreat pulsated with a shared sense of appreciation and anticipation. It was an opportunity for the HCN family to come together, celebrate each other's contributions, and bask in the collective presence that makes HCN a force for positive change.



Dr. Silas - Propelling Programs Forward


Dr. Silas, a guiding light for HCN, underscored the invaluable role played by the entire staff. Among the exciting news shared, the revelation that full-time employees meeting specific criteria would receive rent/mortgage assistance starting August ignited enthusiasm. HCN's growth trajectory also emerged as a thrilling development, signifying expanded horizons for community impact.


The retreat unfolded as a tapestry of empowerment, weaving together the diverse programs that fuel HCN's mission to uplift San Francisco's community.



Nurturing Early Childhood Development


The Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (ECMHC) team bring a profound impact to the youngest members of the community. With a stance of curiosity and deep connection, ECMHC adds a crucial layer of support for families and caregivers navigating the challenging terrain of early childhood development.


Empowering Child Health

EPSDT (Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment) takes center stage in HCN's commitment to ensuring the well-being of every child. Through comprehensive screenings, diagnostics, and treatments, EPSDT embodies HCN's dedication to the health and future of the community's children.


Cultivating Mental Wellness

The Ma'at Program represents a holistic therapeutic community centered around African American families in San Francisco. Ma'at takes a comprehensive, culturally responsive approach to behavioral health care, increasing equity of access for all. Through a whole-person philosophy, this program embodies HCN's commitment to empowering families and promoting wellness.

Cultivating Mental Health Education

The Amani Mental Health Training Program's journey emerged as a beacon of empowerment. Amani paves the way for education and employment opportunities in the mental health field, especially for Black/African American city residents. The program reflects HCN's commitment to culturally responsive mental health and wellness in San Francisco, cultivating a brighter future for all.


Channeling Afrocentric Healing

Kuamka casts Afrocentric healing as its guiding philosophy. By training Black/African American artists to facilitate healing arts groups, HCN brings creativity, community, and cultural opulence to the center of the healing journey. Through mediums like dance, music, and visual arts, Kuamka uplifts both individuals and the community.

Navigating with Community Pathways

The Community Pathways initiative extends a helping hand to both individuals and families, offering essential resources, counseling, and expert case management. This comprehensive program enriches lives through insightful workshops and personalized consultations, fostering growth and well-being within the community.


Radiating Change

The Brighter Futures Collective, a Dream Keeper Initiative-funded endeavor, shines as a collective of organizations providing holistic support to the Black community. HCN's involvement translates into therapeutic and case management services for Black fathers, fostering economic, academic, housing, and health empowerment.


Cultivating Youth Leadership & Success

HCN's commitment to nurturing leadership shines through the Youth Leadership Program (YLP). By providing support and fostering personal growth, YLP empowers young leaders to create positive change in their communities, igniting a brighter future.

Uniting Forces for a Brighter Tomorrow

At the heart of HCN's annual staff retreat lies a commitment to unity and empowerment. From mental health education to creative healing, the retreat showcased how HCN, alongside parents, health care providers, and teachers, weaves a tapestry of strength, support, and progress in the vibrant fabric of San Francisco.
